Malone Cruises To 78-51 Win Over Lake Erie

Box Score

The Malone University women's basketball ball team (12-8, 8-8 GLIAC) cruised to a 78-51 road win over Lake Erie College (3-16, 1-15 GLIAC) Thursday night to move to .500 in conference play.

Junior Deborah Simmers led Malone in scoring for the fifth time in the last six games with 19 points in just 22 minutes. Sophomore Sarah Bardall scored a season-high 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting, while freshman Leslie Raifsnider notched a career-high 10 points. They were not the only Pioneers to contribute offensively as 10 Pioneer players found their names on the score sheet by game's end.

Lake Erie struggled in the absence of their leading scorer (16.0 ppg) and rebounder (12.3 rpg) Ashar Harris, shooting just 37% (22 of 60) from the field. Malone was much better hitting on 30 of 57 shots (53%) and 11 of 21 (52%) three-pointers.

Malone will face a stiff test this Saturday, Feb. 9, when the squad travels to Ashland University (23-0 overall, 16-0 GLIAC) to take on the NCAA Division II #1 ranked Eagles at 3:00 p.m. Malone led Ashland at halftime in their first meeting this year (1/12), before falling 81-57.  The Malone Sports Network will provide live audio during the game at www.malonepioneers.com/showcase.  Live statistics will also be available at http://livestats.prestosports.com/ashland/
