Women's Tennis Drops Opener 7-2 at GVSU

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Grand Valley State defeated Michigan Tech 7-2 in GLIAC women's tennis as both teams opened their 2014-15 campaigns. The Huskies won at the top flight in both singles and doubles.

Junior Kwang Suthijindawong continued her undefeated career in GLIAC singles matches by dispatching GVSU's Leah Dancz in straight sets at No. 1 singles by a 6-2, 6-3 score. Suthijindawong, who played No. 2 singles each of her first two seasons, is now 25-0 for her league career.

Grand Valley State won all five other singles flights in straight sets. No. 2 singles was the closest of those matches. Laker Kali Phillips defeated Huskies freshman Sandra Cvetanovic 7-6 (5), 6-1.

Suthijindawong and Cvetanovic combined at No. 1 doubles for an 8-5 triumph. GVSU won 8-2 and 8-0 at the other two flights.

Michigan Tech will wrap up its season-opening road trip at Ferris State tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
