Kissimmee, Fla. -- The Wayne State University softball team (9-10 overall) began the final day of its spring break trip Saturday afternoon with a
5-2 triumph over 29th-ranked C.W. Post (5-4 overall).
The Warriors scored once in each of the first two innings to take an early 2-0 lead after an inning-and-a-half.
Junior right fielder
Alison Allen (Redford, Mich. / Farmington Hills Mercy) led off the contest with a double down the right field line. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by junior third baseman
Rebecca Stanley (Waterloo, Ont. / Waterloo C.I.), and scored on a two-out single to right by sophomore catcher
Brittany Omelanchuk (Brooklin, Ont. / Wilson S.S.).
In the top of the second, senior designated player
Rachel Spaccarotelli (Ray, Mich. / Romeo) doubled to left center and sophomore pinch-runner
Makelle Barski (Trenton, Mich.) moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman second baseman
Nikki Fulton (Stratford, Ont. / St. Michael Catholic S.S.). After an infield single by freshman left fielder
Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.), Barski scored on a sacrifice bunt by junior shortstop
Lauren Histed (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica).
The Pioneers cut WSU's lead in half in the bottom of the third on a single, wild pitch and an error.
Spaccarotelli started another rally in the top of the sixth with a leadoff walk. White had a one-out infield single, and Allen laced an RBI single to right with two outs scoring Spaccarotelli. White also scored on the play as the throw got away from the CWP catcher.
C.W. Post pulled within 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth on three singles and a wild pitch.
Wayne State completed the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh. Omelanchuk singled with one out and scored on a double by sophomore center fielder

Freshman pitcher
Lauren McLaughlin (Oakville, Ont. / Holy Trinity) improved to 6-3 by limiting the Pioneers to two runs (one earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
Sarah Kiser pitched the first three innings for C.W. Post with Hayley Bettles tossing the final four frames. WSU batters combined for 11 hits but did strikeout nine times.
White led the Warriors with three hits, while Allen recorded her ninth multiple-hit game of the season. Spaccarotelli drew three walks, tied-for-third most in school history for a single contest.
Wayne State improved its all-time mark vs. C.W. Post to 7-3.
