Oilers Rally to Defeat Cardinals in 5

The University of Findlay volleyball team rallied from a two-game deficit to win their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup against the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State on Friday, October 3. The 3-2 (20-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-8) road win in University Center, Mich. improved the Oilers record to 10-3 overall and 7-1 in the conference.

Leading the offense was sophomore Hannah Tong, who hammered 25 kills in the match. Her kill total was the seventh best ever at UF.

Red-shirt freshman Nickyla Garverick also played well as she collected 11 kills and five blocks while freshman Erika Roach had five blocks.

Junior Julie Lyons played well at the net as she led the team with six blocks. She also tallied six kills.

Junior Becca Shoemaker led the defense with 22 digs while senior Amanda Calhoun collected 44 assists in the win.

The Oilers are back in action tomorrow, October 4 when they travel to Detroit to take on Wayne State in a match set to begin at 4pm.
