The Malone University women's basketball team dropped its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Ohio Dominican University on Saturday by a final score of 76-64.
After heading to the locker room down 41-30 at halftime, the Pioneers (8-15 overall, 6-13 GLIAC) rallied back in the early stages of the second period, using an 8-0 run to trim the Panther advantage to 45-43 just over five minutes into the final stanza. However, Ohio Dominican (8-16 overall, 5-13 GLIAC) answered back in a big way, building a commanding 61-43 lead by outscoring Malone 16-0 over the next seven minutes.
A pair of free throws by forward
Tara Schaffter brought the Pioneer scoring drought to an end at the 7:12 mark, but Malone was unable to pull within single digits over the remainder of the game.
The host Panthers scored the first eight points of the contest and never trailed over the course of the afternoon.   Although Ohio Dominican struggled from beyond the three-point arc (1 of 11), the Panthers still managed to shoot 48.3% (28 of 58) overall and knocked down 19 of 20 (95%) foul shots. Malone countered by making 34.5% (19 of 55) of its field goals, 33.3% (seven of 21) of its treys and 70.4% (19 of 27) of its free throws.
