Dragons dominate Wayne State 7-2

What a weekend for Tiffin University tennis as the women's tennis team took out Hillsdale on Saturday and set their sights on the Wayne State Warriors on Sunday. TU needed a big win against the Warriors to continue their push to stay atop the GLIAC standings and a big win is what they got, posting a 7-2 victory.

TU started off strong at doubles with big wins at 1st and 2nd doubles. Nelhage and Kaye continued their domination of the GLIAC with yet another win at 1st doubles. The pairing took down Peisacovitz and Kuznetsova 8-5 to put TU up 2-1 in doubles. TU's second doubles win came at 2nd doubles as Sim and Musina were able to give the Dragons a much needed boost. The pairing has struggled at times this season, but came up big when the team needed them with an impressive 8-1 win over Ghellere and Walz. TU's lone doubles loss came at 3rd doubles where Avram and Brozovich dropped an 8-1 decision to Hughes and Walkder.

With the Dragons leading 2-1 Coach Conley had a chat with his team to express the magnitude of the situation at hand, TU had a 2-1 against a strong Wayne State opponent and they couldn't let that slip away. The Dragons came out on fire winning 5 of the 6 singles matches and showing no signs of letting up against the Warriors. TU sent out the reigning GLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week in Caroline Nelhage as she dispatched Peisacovitz in a 6-2, 6-3 match at 1st singles. TU followed that up with a solid 7-5, 6-1 victory at 2nd singles where Adele Musina took down Kuznetsova. Musina was slow to start the match and was able to fend off 2 match points before winning the first set. The second set was all Dragons with a dominating victory.

3rd singles was absolute Dragon dominance as freshman Emily Sim continued her tear through the GLIAC with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory over Ghellere. Things got a bit sketchy for the Dragons at 4th singles where Bianca Avram won her first set 6-4, but dropped her second set by the same score. Avram was able to pull out a 10 point tie breaker due to the match being decided by a score of 10-3 to defeat Walz of Wayne State. 5th singles was much the same for Aimee Kaye as she won another match quite handily, taking down Ziellza 6-0, 6-1. TU's lone singles loss was Andrea Alaniz who fell to Hughes 6-0, 6-2.

The Dragons improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the GLIAC, riding a 3 game winning streak. The Dragons will have a break in conference action as the team travels to Grand Rapids for the Women's Regional ITA Tournament on Friday the 23rd.
