DETROIT -- The 33rd-ranked Wayne State University women's basketball team (21-6 overall) recorded a 75-60 GLIAC quarterfinal win over visiting Hillsdale College (12-15 overall) Wednesday evening at the Matthaei.

With the victory, the top-seeded Warriors will host the GLIAC semifinals (Saturday at 1 and 3 pm) and the GLIAC Championship contest (Sunday at 2 pm).  All three games will be played at the Matthaei.  Wayne State will play Malone at 1 p.m. with the Northern Michigan vs. Michigan Tech contest to follow at 3 p.m.  All three GLIAC weekend games will be televised live on Comcast CN 900.

WSU was hosting a GLIAC playoff game for just the third time in 12 years but remained unbeaten at home with a complete team effort.

All four ties in the game occurred in the first six minutes (at 2, 5, 7 and 12).  After junior Ondrea Hughes (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Loy Norrix) split a pair from the foul line to give the Warriors a 13-12 advantage the lead changed five times in less than three minutes.  Sophomore Brittany Streetman (Warren, Mich. / Lincoln) drained a triple off a feed from classmate Kristen Long (Corunna, Mich. / Durand) at the 8:54 mark to put Wayne State ahead for good at 20-18.

Following a Charger turnover, Hughes scored from inside.  HC's Megan Fogt, who led all scorers with 25 points, scored off a dish from Ashlyn Landherr, but Warrior junior Ashley Wilson (Portage, Mich. / Northern) answered with a bucket of her own.  Another hoop by Fogt, which cut the WSU margin to two (24-22), was responded with a lay-up by Wayne State senior Imari Redfield (Detroit, Mich. / Country Day).

After another basket by Fogt made it a three-point game (27-24), Redfield tallied five consecutive points on a lay-up and a triple, then junior Shareta Brown (Pontiac, Mich. / Grand Blanc) ended the run with a triple from the top of the key increasing WSU's advantage to 11 (35-24) with 3:10 left.

Fogt scored again, but Wayne State ended the first half on an 8-0 run pushing its lead to 17 (43-26) at intermission.  WSU had 10 assists to four turnovers in the opening 20 minutes and shot 55 percent (17-of-31) from the field.  Brown had 12 points, two assists and two steals by halftime.  Fogt was 9-of-10 from the field for 18 points, but the rest of the Chargers were 3-of-16 in the first half with two of the three buckets being triples.

The second half continued with WSU out-scoring Hillsdale 19-9 in the first 10 minutes to open a 62-35 lead with nine minutes remaining.

The final score was as close as the game would be the entire second half.

Six Wayne State players scored at least seven points each as Brown led with 16 points, and tied for the team lead with three steals in 22 minutes.  Hughes contributed 12 points and three steals, while junior Jackie Jones (Detroit, Mich. / Martin Luther King) chipped in with four points and six assists.  Wilson tallied seven points and eight rebounds with junior Kayla Bridges (Canton, Mich.) adding eight points and seven rebounds.

Fogt, as was mentioned earlier, recorded game-high totals of 25 points and 14 assists while Brooke Borowski added 10 points.  Fogt was 11-of-16 from the field but the rest of the Hillsdale squad combined to go 12-45 from the floor.

WSU led in every specialty category -- points in the paint (38-22), points off turnovers (24-6), second-chance points (10-9), fast break points (4-2) and bench scoring (26-18).
