MIDLAND, Mich. – The Wayne State University women's tennis team fell short to Northwood, 5-2, in the second round of the 2015 GLIAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Midland Community Tennis Center. One doubles pair and one Warrior at singles collected the two points for the Green and Gold.
DOUBLES- Freshman duo
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont. / Northview Heights S.S.) and
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia / Moscow School 45) topped Carol Arnez-Mercardo and Anna Aniskina in a tiebreaker, 8-7(6), at the first flight.
- Sophomore
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil / Unificado) and junior
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) lost in a close, 9-7, game to Oleisa Riabchuk and Anastasiia Kazub at No. 3 doubles.
- Junior
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) and senior
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) suffered their first loss at the second doubles flight, 8-6, to Alisa Reshetnikova and Maria Avksenenko.
SINGLES- Mitrache bested Arnez-Mercardo in two sets, 6-4, 6-1, at the first singles flight. She has remained undefeated with a record of 12-0.
- Kuznetsova was defeated by Kazub in a tiebreaker, 6-4 (4-6, 6-1), at the fourth position.
- Peisachovitz fell short, 6-3, 6-3, to Riabchuk at No. 3 singles, while Ghellere was topped by Pavych, 7-6, 6-3, at the sixth flight.
UP NEXT- WSU will play in the third-place match against Tiffin on Sunday. The match is set for 8:15 a.m. WSU defeated the Dragons, 5-4, during the regular season on Sept. 13.
