Oilers Unable to Knock Off Panthers
The University of Findlay softball team traveled to Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, April 15 for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader with Ohio Dominican University. The Oilers dropped both games on the day and now stand at 18-19 on the season and 8-8 in conference play.
Game 1 L 8-3 Box Score
A five run sixth inning and four errors powered the Panthers to an 8-3 victory over Findlay in the first game of the day.
The Oilers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a RBI single by junior Meredith Shepherd in the top of the second.
Ohio Dominican took the lead in the bottom of the fourth as they scored three runs, in part by three Findlay miscues.
In the top of the sixth junior Madison Arnold walked and junior Amanda Delmonte singled. With two outs sophomore Salwa Al-Hajabed singled and a throwing error allowed one run to score. Freshman Rachel Vander Roest was inserted as a pinch runner and it paid off as she stole home to knot up the score at 3-3.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Panthers took the lead for good as they exploded for five runs, behind a two-run home run, for an eventual 8-3 final score.
The Oilers were able to connect on 12 hits while the Panthers ended the game with 10. Junior Kelley Cejer, junior Destinie Keeton, Shepherd and Al-Hajabed all had multiple hits for the Oilers.
Senior Jenna Inman (6-7) pitched 5.1 innings for the Oilers and picked up the loss. She gave up seven runs, five earned, on eight hits with one walk.
Game 2 L 10-0 Box Score
The Oilers bats cooled off in the second game as they managed only two hits in route to a 10-0 loss.
Senior Lauren Trumpler and Cejer were the only Oilers to register a hit in the second game.
Ohio Dominican scored three runs in the second inning, two in the fourth and five in the fifth inning for a 10-0 final score.
Sophomore Hailey Bryan (10-9) picked up the loss in the circle for the Oilers. She pitched five innings giving up eight runs, five earned, on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
Findlay returns to the playing field on Saturday, April 22 when they will host Northwood University for a GLIAC doubleheader. The first game is slated for 1 p.m.
