Dragons Use Triples To Trump Pride

The Tiffin University women's basketball team splashed home 13 three-pointers en route to a 66-56 victory over the Purdue Northwest Pride on Thursday night.

The Dragons kept rolling right along on Thursday night, hitting 13 triples on their way to a ten point win over Purdue Northwest. Tiffin accelerated out of the gate, roaring ahead to a 13-2 lead thanks to three triples and a pair of Jensen Hiegel layups. The Dragons went on to score 19 points in the 1st quarter as they led 19-13 at the end of the 1st quarter.

The Pride eventually caught up in the 2nd quarter, pulling to within a bucket at 25-23 with 05:27 remaining in the quarter. The Pride continued to push forward, and managed to tie the score right before halftime at 33-33.

Tiffin found their stroke in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Pride 15-9 thanks to their long range shooting. The Dragons' defense patrolled the three-point line in the 3rd quarter, holding the Pride to 14.3% shooting from the field and 0 of 4 from beyond the arc.

Holding a 48-42 lead headed to the 4th quarter, Tiffin never let off the gas, scoring 18 points on 50% shooting from the field and from beyond the arc. Defensively Tiffin held the Pride to only 26.7% shooting from the field and 1 of 6 from deep. Tiffin rolled to a 66-56 victory, using Kiley May's 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the field to do so.

May led the charge with 19 points, followed by Aida Santana Martin with 14 points, five rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Jensen Hiegel had a nice game for Tiffin, scoring 10 points while grabbing five boards, and handing out five assists. 

Tiffin moves to 9-16 overall and 5-12 in the GLIAC. The Dragons currently sit in a tie for the final spot in the GLIAC Tournament with two other teams.
