Tiffin Clips Tech 5-4 in Men's Tennis

HOUGHTON, Mich. — The Michigan Tech men's tennis team wrapped up its 2014 regular season today with a 5-4 loss to Tiffin at Gates Tennis Center. The Huskies came back from a 4-1 deficit in the match to tie it at 4-all before succumbing.

Doubles was the difference for the third straight match (the team leading after doubles won all three over the weekend). The visiting Dragons took two of the three points.

Tech's lone victory came at No. 1, where Felipe Dos Santos and Pedro Rodriguez won 8-2. The pair finished the regular season 15-3 overall including a 7-0 mark at home. As seniors, they wrapped up their home careers with a 12-0 home record.

Tiffin won the other two doubles flights by 8-5 and 8-3 counts.

The Dragons (15-9 overall, 8-3 GLIAC) expanded their lead to 4-1 with straight-set wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles.

Tech needed to win each of the final four matches on the courts to earn the team victory. It got the first three.

Built Yumuang posted a 6-3, 7-5 decision at No. 4; Rodriguez went to three sets for the third time in his last four matches and won 6-4, 0-6, 6-2 at No. 3; and Jimmy Konarske gained a 7-5, 6-1 triumph at No. 6 singles to tie the team score at 4.

Nick Kremkow played the deciding match at No. 5 singles. He won the first set 6-2 before falling 6-1, 6-2 in the second and third.

Michigan Tech, now 9-9 overall and 4-7 in the GLIAC, will have next weekend off before traveling to Midland, Mich., for the GLIAC Tournament. The Huskies will be the No. 8 seed at the Apr. 25-27 event.
