GRANDVILLE, Mich.
-- The Wayne State University men's tennis team improved to 5-1 in the GLIAC on Saturday, winning a 6-3 match at Grand Valley State University. The match was played indoors at Ramblewood Tennis Club.

The No. 2 doubles duo of senior Michael FitzGerald (Grosse Ile, Mich. / Grosse Ile) and freshman Clement Charriere (Marseille, France) picked up their fifth straight victory as a pair, winning 9-7. At the third flight, senior Melvin Joseph (Northville, Mich. / Northville) and sophomore Mohamed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France / Martin Luther King) notched an 8-6 win.

WSU posted victories in four of the six singles flights to clinch the win over GVSU.

Charriere clinched the match victory with his triumph at No. 1 singles. He won his third consecutive match at the top spot, winning 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 over Grand Valley's top singles player, Francis Bertrand.

At No. 4 singles, Fazyl Kechai won in three sets, winning 6-1, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3. Joseph dropped just five games, winning 6-3, 6-2 at the fifth flight and junior Trey Keating (Troy, Mich. / Troy) also earned a singles win at the No. 6 slot, coming back from one set down to win 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

Wayne State's other two matches in singles also went to three sets each, as Grand Valley won at both No. 2 and No. 3 singles.
