The Malone University men's soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime to fellow Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member the University of Findlay on Sunday night.
Neither team would convert a shot in the first half, resulting in 0-0 standstill at halftime. The Oilers finished the first half with the 10-to-1 shot advantage over the Pioneers.
Five minutes into the second half, forward
Nick Astalos drilled a shot to the lower right corner of the net to put Malone ahead 1-0 with 40 minutes left in regulation.
At the 72:52 marker in the second half, Findlay's leading scorer, Ryan Husband, headed the ball into the net off a free kick from teammate Michael Shaikly to tie the game at 1-1.
The Pioneers had two attempts at the goal in the final minutes of the game, but couldn't get one in the net, sending the game into overtime.
With just 52 seconds left in overtime, the hosts netted the shot to take the 2-1 victory.
The Pioneers will return to action on Friday, October 9
th when they welcome Northwood University (MI) to Pioneer Field for a 4:00 p.m. kick-off.
