Dragons win GLIAC Tournament title

The third time was the charm for the Tiffin University men's soccer team, which bounced back from an earlier season loss and a tie in their last meeting to defeat Saginaw Valley State in the GLIAC Tournament Championship game 2-1 in double overtime.

Tiffin (14-4-2) got the gamewinner from Kangni Gabianou, who took a pass from Austin Combs and knocked it home in the 108th minute. It marked the conclusion of a close battle that saw TU come back from a 1-0 deficit to force the overtime periods.

After a scoreless first half, the Cardinals opened scoring in the 51st minute. But Tiffin responded just two minutes later when Michael Bottomley headed home a pass from Andre Landell to tie the score 1-1.

The Dragons had a couple chances in the first overtime but could not put a shot on goal. In fact, TU mustered only 3 shots on goal for the game, scoring on two of them.

Overall TU outshot Saginaw Valley 19-12, with the Cardinals holding a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.

Cary Wilson got the win in goal, making 2 saves over 108 minutes.

This marks the fourth time the Dragons have won the GLIAC Tournament championship. TU previously won in 2011, 2009 and 2008. They have won regular season championships in 2013 and 2014.
