GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (1-4, 0-2 GLIAC) were unable to hold onto a halftime lead and lost 70-63 at #13-Grand Valley State (6-1, 1-1 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon.  The contest featured four ties and 11 lead changes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Two baskets from Ray Williams, Jr. (Detroit, Mich. / Edison Public School Academy) gave the Warriors a 4-2 lead two minutes into the contest.  A pair of free throws from Avery Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) made it 6-2.  A GVSU triple at the 13:05 mark gave the Lakers an 7-6 lead.  WSU went back on top 8-7 with 12 minutes to play on a bucket by Nate Talbot (Lake Orion, Mich.).  A three-point play by Lewis tied the game at 14-14 with 9:13 to play before halftime.

Mike Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Ann Arbor Huron) made one of two at the charity stripe plus a tough contested layup by Brailen Neely (Detroit, Mich. / Western International) gave the Green & Gold a 27-21 advantage at the 3:33 mark.  A high-flying alley-oop from Neely to Robinson and a 12-foot jumper by Darian Owens-White (Detroit, Mich. / River Rouge) pushed the visitors' lead to 33-23.

A trey by Owens-White pushed the WSU advantage to 40-31 at the 16:58 mark.  Wayne State continued to control the tempo and led 45-35 after a Neely driving layup with 15 minutes to play in the contest.  Two free throws by Owens-White made it 47-39 at the 13:23 mark.  The Lakers pulled within three, 47-44, with 10:07 remaining.  GVSU tied the game and then took a 51-50 lead on a three-point play from Jake Van Tubbergen at the 7:44 mark.  The home team seized the momentum as Wayne State went cold and led 57-50 with 5:51 to play.

A layup and two free throws from Lewis brought the Warriors within four, 60-56, at the 2:46 mark.  With 1:22 left, the Lakers led 64-58 before a steal and a layup by Owens-White.  A late triple by Neely made it 68-63 but time ran out and GVSU collected a 70-63 victory.
