Dragons fall to 13th-ranked Lakers 19-13

It was a battle of two Top 25 teams in Allendale, Michigan, with Tiffin University (7-4, 4-2 GLIAC) coming up short for the second time this season against 13th-ranked Grand Valley State 19-13.

The Dragons, with all four losses this season coming to ranked teams, gave the Lakers a battle throughout the game. They opened in solid fashion, taking a 5-3 lead with 11:25 left in the first half behind two goals apiece by Elle MacMillan and Elle Hamilton.

The Lakers responded over the closing minutes of the first half, going on a 5-2 run to hold a slim 8-7 halftime lead.

GVSU kept the pressure on the Dragons as the second half commenced, as the Lakers raced out to a 6-2 scoring edge in the first 13 minutes of the second half and take a commanding 14-8 lead.

This time the Dragons bounced back, ripping off four straight goals to pull to within 14-12 with 6:30 to play. Amanda Flotteron and MacMillan led the charge, scoring two goals apiece.

TU could not get closer, though, as the Lakers kept TU under control and finished the game on a 5-1 scoring run to seal up the victory.

Overall Grand Valley State held a 41-24 shot advantage and a big 11-2 edge in free position shots. They also won the draw controls 20-14.

Flotteron led the way with 4 goals and 3 assists, while MacMillan had 5 goals, 4 ground balls, and 4 draw controls. Hamilton had 3 goals and 5 draws. Amie Morrison had a goal and assist, while Ashley Osbeck and Tiffany Anderson had assists.

Kat Schneeberger took the loss in goal, making 11 saves in the defeat.
