WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Wayne State University men's tennis team (6-4 overall) earned three singles wins on Friday, but were defeated by 14th-ranked host Rollins (4-5 overall) 5-4.
Freshman
Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) was WSU's lone double-winner, earning a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Francesco Racanelli at No. 4 singles and a 9-7 at No. 3 doubles with sophomore
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.).
DOUBLES RESULTS
Karcz and Sammons earned the lone point in doubles for Wayne State, defeating Frederick Danielson and Guilherme Dumit.
At the first flight, sophomore
Mats Westkamp (Bonn, Germany) and junior
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) fell 8-6 to Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz.
Junior
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and senior
Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire, England) lost in the second flight (8-5) to Danielson and Atakan Gezer .
SINGLES RESULTS
Westkamp and Mertz joined Karcz as winners on Friday.
In the first flight, Westkamp bested De Fraia, 7-7 (7-5), 2-6, 7-6 (7-3).
Mertz competed in the third flight, earning a 6-2, 6-3 win over Daniel Ferl.
At No. 2, Vane lost 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2 to Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz.
Reed fell 6-0, 6-1 to Ziad Melaoui in the fifth flight.
Danielson defeated Sammons at No. 5 (3-6, 6-3, 7-5).

Wayne State will play its third match in three days Saturday, traveling to Lakeland, Fla. to take on host Florida Southern. The match will take place at the Warden Tennis Center starting at noon.
