Strong Second Half Lifts Men's Basketball to Fourth Straight Win

Marcus Moore led WSU with a career-high 20 points.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball program (4-1, 1-0 GLIAC) extended its winning streak to four games with a 71-60 win over Lake Erie (0-8, 0-1 GLIAC) on Thursday night inside the Matthaei as league play began across the GLIAC.  The Warriors were sluggish during the first 20 minutes but outscored the Storm 50-28 in the second half to earn an 11-point victory.  The exciting game featured seven ties and four lead changes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lake Erie led 8-4 at the 17:25 mark of the opening period but layups from Marcus Moore (Lansing, Mich. / Waverly) and Ronald Booth (Detroit, Mich. / Consortium) tied the contest at 8-8 with 15:39 left to play before halftime.  Clark Bishop (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance) connected on one of two free throws to give WSU a 12-11 lead at the 12:40 mark and two more freebies from George Spencer (Detroit, Mich. / Belleville) extended the home lead to 16-13 with 10:40 to play.  However, Lake Erie would gather all of the momentum and led 23-16 with just over eight minutes remaining in the half.  The Storm ended the half on a 6-0 run to take a 32-21 lead into the locker rooms.  For the half, WSU shot just 28.6 percent (8-for-28) and did not hit a triple in eight attempts.

- It looked like it would be more of the same as LEC notched the first five points of the second half to extend its lead to 37-21.  A three-point play from Bishop trimmed the deficit to 10 (42-32) at the 15:15 mark.  Another three-point play, this one from Moore, cut LEC's advantage to seven, 42-35 with 15 minutes to play.  Booth started to heat up and knocked down back-to-back jumpers to tie the game at 46-46 at the 12-minute mark.  The Green & Gold took its first lead (50-48) since the 9:57 mark of the first half on a layup from Moore with 11 minutes to play.  That two-point deficit would be as close as the Storm would come the rest of the night as WSU led by at least eight points for the final four minutes of the game.  WSU shot 56.7 percent from the floor in the second half.

COACH GREER TIES RECORD
- With the win David Greer matches Ron Hammye's program record of 212 victories, which he collected in his 13 seasons (1988-01).

MOORE DOING MORE
- Moore led WSU's offensive attack with a career-high 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting.  The Lansing native has scored at least 10 points in every game this season and tallied 22 points in the exhibition win over Detroit Mercy.

TAKE CARE OF THE BALL
- Turnovers plagued WSU's slow start on Thursday, giving the ball away on 10 occasions in the first half.  However, Wayne State committed just three turnovers int he second half.
