BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The fifth-seed Wayne State University volleyball team (16-13) dropped a GLIAC Semifinal contest against top-seeded and 20th-ranked Ferris State (22-7) on Saturday in the GLIAC Semifinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Hailey Richardson (New Boston, Mich. / Huron) gave WSU a 5-4 kill early in the first set. The set was tied at 12-12 before Ferris State won the next eight points, taking a 20-12 advantage. The Bulldogs were within one point from winning the set at 24-18 before the Warriors began to chip away. A 6-0 run capped by a FSU error tied the game at 24-24. The teams traded points until it was 27-27 and Richardson connected for back-to-back kills and gave Wayne State a 29-27 victory.
- WSU trailed 8-1 to begin the second set and would never get closer than four points the rest of the way as FSU won 25-18.
- The Bulldogs controlled the entire third set and won 24-9.

Grace Frazee (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) put WSU up 10-9 in the fourth set after a kill. Another Richardson kill pushed the visitors lead to 15-13. The set was tied at 17-17 but the Bulldogs began to string together runs and would go on to win 25-23 and the match 3-1.

- Richardson tallied 16 kills, while
Julia Malewicz (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies / Henry Ford II) notched 10.Â
Natalie Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) dished out 34 assists, while
Ellie Rodriguez (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Catholic Central) and Malewicz tied for the team lead with 16 digs.
