DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (11-6, 8-5 GLIAC) hosted Lake Superior State (10-7, 7-6 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon in a battle for sole possession of the fourth spot in the GLIAC North Division standings and the Warriors controlled nearly the entire contest, winning 83-59. The Lakers came into the game boasting the top scoring offense in the GLIAC, averaging over 90 points per night but the Warriors held the visitors to a 39.3 shooting percentage and 59 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Chuck Key (Detroit, Mich. / Cass Tech) put Wayne State up 10-5 at the 15:17 mark of the opening stanza. The lead grew to 15-8 before a 9-0 run by the Lakers put the visitors on top 17-15 with 8:19 remaining in the half. Back-to-back lay-ups from
Marcus Moore (Lansing, Mich. / Waverly) and Key gave the Green & Gold a 27-26 advantage at the 2:29 mark. The momentum stayed with the home squad heading into the locker rooms for intermission as Moore banked in a 45-foot buzzer-beater to end the period and staked the Warriors to a 32-36 lead.
- Key started the second half with two quick buckets to extend the lead to 10.
George Spencer (Detroit, Mich. / Belleville) connected from behind the arc and Key followed with another jumper to keep WSU ahead by double-digits.
Michael Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) muscled his way to the rim for a tough basket to stretch the lead to 56-39 and forced Lake Superior State to take a timeout. The hot shooting continued as Moore knocked down a jumper and Spencer followed with another long two-point basket, giving WSU a 60-43 advantage at the 9:45 mark. A trey from Moore put the lead at 20 where it would linger for the remainder of the contest as the Warriors cruised to an 83-59 victory.

- Key connected on 10 of his 18 shots to lead WSU with 23 points, while Moore tallied 18.
Ronald Booth (Detroit, Mich. / Consortium) contributed 17 points and Spencer finished with 14.
LSSU LEADERS
- The league's leading scorer Akaemji Williams was held to 14 points after entering the week averaging 22.2 points per contest.
SECOND HALF SURGE
- WSU used another strong second half to win its second straight game. On Thursday, the Warriors outscored Northwood 52-32 and used a 51-33 advantage on Saturday to collect their fifth win this season by 19 points or more
