Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight at Purdue Northwest

The Warriors hit .380 for the match on Friday night.

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (8-4, 4-0 GLIAC) improved to 4-0 in league play with a comfortable three-set victory (25-13, 25-8, 25-11) at Purdue Northwest (4-9, 1-3 GLIAC) on Friday night.  It was the first-ever meeting against one of the two newest members of the GLIAC as PNW and Davenport joined the conference during the summer.

WSU has begun league play undefeated for the first time since the 2012 team started 7-0 in conference action.  Wayne State is tied with Ferris State and Northern Michigan for first place atop the GLIAC standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-  The Warriors won the first five points of the opening set and led 10-4 after a kill from Hailey Richardson (New Boston, Mich. / Huron).  Madelyn Krenz (Chenoa, Ill. / Prairie Central) found her swing and connected for three kills in the middle of the set to stretch WSU's lead to 17-11.  Krenz secured the game one win with another kill to give Wayne State a 25-13 victory.

- Krenz continued to have the hot hand and put the Green & Gold up 7-1 in the second set.  A point from Grace Frazee (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) extended the visitors' lead to 10-4 but the Pride answered with a 3-0 run to trim deficit 10-7.  The Warriors ended the set on a 14-1 run to win 25-8.  The 17-point margin of victory is the largest since a 25-8 victory over Lake Erie on Nov. 16, 2013.

- Consecutive attack errors and a service error by Purdue Northwest gave WSU a 6-3 lead to begin the third set.  Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky, / Assumption) notched a kill to give the Warriors a 10-4 advantage.  An ace from Madison Kielty (Plymouth, Mich. / Canton) and a Pride attacking error pushed WSU's lead to 15-6.  The Warriors would cruise to a 25-11 victory for their fifth sweep of the season.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
- In a balanced attack, 10 Warriors recorded a kill, led by seven from Richardson.  Natalie Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) finished with 20 assists, while Ellie Rodriguez (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Catholic Central) tallied 13 digs.  WSU blocked 16 total attack attempts.

UP NEXT
- WSU will meet the other newest member of the GLIAC on Saturday when it squares off against Davenport at 4:00 p.m.
