Cavaliers Slip By Pioneers in Final Game of Season

The Malone University men's soccer team lost its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road contest to rival Walsh University by a final score of 2-1 Friday night to wrap up the 2014 season.

The Cavaliers got on the scoreboard within two minutes of the start of the game when Brandon Frederick assisted Bailey Moody on his fourth goal on the season, giving the hosts an early 1-0 lead. With the rain and muddy field, the defense from Walsh would score on their own goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the 20th minute. Nine minutes later, Kain Melville scored off a rebound to put Walsh back in front 2-1.The score stayed the same at intermission.

Malone had 11 chances at the net in the second half, but couldn't produce the tying goal. The Pioneers defense held Walsh to only six shots in the second half.

Goalie Jon Crabbs had eight saves on the night. He finished the season with 122 saves.

Senior Matt Akindipe was the leading scorer this season finishing with seven points (three goals, one assist).
