DETROIT – The Wayne State University women's tennis squad remains undefeated after defeating Lake Superior (1-11 overall, 1-8 GLIAC) today at home.
With the victory, the Warriors are 9-0 overall and 9-0 in the GLIAC.
Wayne State took a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Seniors
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / Ecole Secondaire Felix-Leclerc) earned a 8-3 victory at the top flight, while freshman
Liz de Souza Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil / Unificado) and junior
Julia Kamenko (Thornhill, Ont. / Vaughan S.S) teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
At the third flight, sophomore
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and sophomore
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) combined for an 8-1 victory.
The Warriors won five out of the six singles matches to clinch the victory. Moore earned a victory with a score of 6-2, 6-2. Briand won her singles match at No. 3 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1.
Kamenko won at No. 4 singles with set scores 6-0, 6-1 and Hughes claimed victory at No. 6 singles with 6-1, 6-0 scores.
Ghellere posted a straight-set victory at the fifth flight in singles for the Warriors.
Wayne State remains at home Wednesday when they take on Northwood at 1 p.m.
