Oilers Come Up Short at Tech
The University of Findlay men's basketball team came up short in Houghton, Mich. on Dec. 11, losing 70-59 to Michigan Technological University. The loss gives the Oilers a 2-3 record on the season with a 1-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
The Huskies used a 13-0 run in the final 3:26 of the first half to take a 39-28 lead at the break and withstood several spurts from the Oilers in the second half to earn their first league win of the year.
Findlay shot 42.9 percent (18-of-42) from the floor in the game and made 50 percent (11-of-22) of their three point tries. The Huskies meanwhile shot a blistering 55.3 percent (26-of-47) from the field, which included a 12-of-23 (52.2%) showing from long range. Michigan Tech also held a 30-19 advantage on the boards and out-scored the Oilers by a 22-10 margin in the paint.
Junior guard Dylan Kaufman led the Oilers with 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting while senior forward Jake Heagen produced 12 points on a 4-of-6 showing from the floor.
Freshman guard Elijah Kahlig, making his first career start, contributed nine points while sophomore center Quaran Jones had seven points.
Ben Stelzer, the 2014 GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year, led the Huskies with 24 points.
The Oilers will be back in action again on Saturday when they face Northern Michigan University at 3 p.m. in Marquette, Mich.
