Wayne State outscored, 54-33, in second half

DETROIT - One week removed from the Wayne State University women's basketball team's overtime victory at the University of Findlay, the Warriors (9-7, 4-5 GLIAC) lost an 88-71 result to the Oilers (11-5, 5-4 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon at the Matthaei.

Much like in Thursday's game against Hillsdale, the Warriors led at halftime but were undone by a lengthy second-half run by the visitors.  On Saturday, the Oilers put together a 25-5 run in the second half to pull away.

With her fifth double-double of the season, Juanita Cochran (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill) led the Warriors with 19 points and 13 rebounds.  She shot 9-for-13 from the field.

Wayne State took its largest lead of the first half, 28-21, as Stefani Munro (Harrison Twp., Mich./Mount Clemens) made a pair of free throws with 4:56 left.  Findlay followed with an 11-point run, however, and took its first lead of the game before a subsequent 6-0 run by the Warriors gave them a 38-34 advantage at the break.

Paige Sickmiller (Romeo, Mich.) accumulated 13 of her 15 points in the opening 20 minutes.  She finished the game 6-for-13 as the Warriors shot 49 percent in the first half.

A layup by Phaebre Colbert (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) put WSU ahead, 50-41, with 16:23 to play.  The Oilers heated up and outscored the Warriors, 47-21, the rest of the way, taking the lead for good at 54-52 with 12:32 left.  Findlay shot 59 percent in the final 20 minutes.

Lacey Kessler and Kayla Brown led Findlay with 26 and 22 points, respectively.

Wayne State will travel to Tiffin and Ohio Dominican next week.
