Softball Falls on the Road to Ashland

The Malone University softball team fell on the road to GLIAC opponent Ashland University by the final scores of 3-0 and 10-2 (five innings) on Tuesday night.

The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday, April 2nd against GLIAC opponent the University of Findlay. The first game is slated to start at 1:00 p.m. at Pioneer Field.

Game One:
The Eagles crashed the boards first in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 1-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the hosts went on to score two more runs to extend their lead to 3-0.

The Pioneer defense was working hard and tough throughout the whole game, especially in the bottom of the sixth inning as Malone got three quick outs.

Malone had one more chance to earn some runs in the top of the seventh inning, but unfortunately they were unable to do so, giving the Eagles the 3-0 win.

Ashley Beck went 1-for-3 at the plate and registered her third double of the season.

Game Two:
Caley Ritts blasted her first career triple in the bottom of the first inning which brought in Ashley Beck and Emily Isla to make it a 2-0 contest.

Ashland responded right back with two runs of their own in the top of the second inning to tie the game at 2-2.

The Eagles went on to score eight more runs in the top of the third inning to increase their lead to 10-2.

The Pioneer offense gave a great effort, but they weren't able to score any more runs, which gave the Eagles their second win on the day.

Ritts finished the game going 1-for-2 at the plate.  She collected two RBI's and tallied a triple.
