Oilers Riding 4 Game Win Streak
The University of Findlay softball team came away with a pair of victories on Friday, March 10 in Clermont, Florida to bring their record to 8-8 on the season.
Game 1 (W 7-0)
A six run second inning propelled the Oilers to a 7-0 victory over the University of Bridgeport. In the second inning, junior Destinie Keeton led off with a solo home run. Juniors Amanda Delmonte and Hayley Apple reached on a single and walk, respectively. Junior Meredith Shepherd then cleared the bases with a three run home run. Findlay continued to pour it on with a two RBI double by junior Madison Arnold for a commanding 6-0.
Shepherd would score the final run of the game in the sixth inning after she connected on a single and was brought around the bases by sophomore Erika Farst for a 7-0 final.
Sophomore Hailey Bryan picked up the win in the circle for Findlay. She pitched a complete game, giving up just three hits.
Shepherd finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Oilers.
The Oilers again used a huge second inning to defeat Nyack College in game two. The Warriors jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. The Oilers responded by erupting for seven runs in the second inning.
Senior Lauren Trumpler and Delmonte led off the inning with back-to-back singles and after an out, Shepherd singled to load the bases. Junior Lauren Yacks connected on a two RBI single and an error allowed two more runs to score. With two outs and two on, Keeton stretched the lead with a three RBI home run for a 7-2 lead.
The Warriors would make things interesting as they scored two runs in the fourth, one run in the fifth and one in the sixth to trail 7-6.
The Oilers tacked on the would be winning run in the top of the seventh thanks to a RBI single from Trumpler. Nyack added a run in the bottom of the inning, but the Oilers defense would hold on for a 8-7 final.
Senior Jenna Inman recorded the win on the mound for Findlay. She pitched 5.1 innings giving up six runs, five earned, on six hits with one strikeout.
The Oilers recorded 11 hits and one error in the game, while the Warriors had 8 hits and two errors.
The Oilers will play their final two games in Florida on Saturday, March 11 against Drury at 10:30 a.m. and against Illinois-Springfield at 3:30 p.m.
