ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse evened its record at 1-1 in GLIAC play, scoring a 12-9 win over Davenport behind six goals from junior
Alina Boyce on Sunday at the Concordia Dome at Sea Foam Stadium.
The six goals ties a career-high and is tied for second most in a game in school history. Boyce also set a record with 15 shot attempts in the contest.
The Golden Bears move to 4-3 overall and will hit the road for the next three games, heading to Maryville (Mo.) and McKendree (Ill.) next Friday and Sunday followed by a Friday, March 29 road game at Lewis (Ill.). The loss puts the Panthers at an identical 4-3 overall and 1-1 GLIAC record.
Concordia is now 3-0 against Davenport in the series history, including last season's season sweep.
Davenport had the upper hand early, scoring a pair of goals in the first four minutes of play before Boyce put the Bears on the scoreboard less than 40 seconds after Davenport's second goal. Just over a minute later, it was junior
Maddie Hentges who would score to tie the game as four goals were scored in the game's first 5:41 of play.
Davenport added the next two goals to keep the early lead before Hentges and Boyce scored back-to-back goals again to tie it 14 minutes into the game.
After Davenport reclaimed a 5-4 lead, the Golden Bears stormed ahead with a four goal run starting with Hentges tying the game at five on her third goal to give her 14 on the year with Boyce putting CSP ahead 6-5 a mere 20 seconds later for the 6-5 lead with 3:56 to play before halftime.
In the second half, freshman
Sara McNicoll scored nearly three minutes into the period with senior
Izzy Snow adding CSP's fourth goal in a row with 21:33 to play in the game for an 8-5 lead.
Davenport responded by scoring three goals over the next eight minutes to tie the game at eight with 13:14 left in the contest.
After Boyce put CSP back in front, Davenport's Aaliyah Miller scored her third goal of the half and fourth of the game to tie it up with 8:17 to go.
Sophomore
Lex Seifert netted the game winner with just 4:35 to play before Boyce put the Panthers away with two more goals down the stretch.
Junior defender
Cassidy Leininger came up with a big stop late in the game, causing a turnover on Davenport's Taylor Ries, securing the ground ball and executing the clear with under 30 seconds left and a two goal lead before the final Boyce goal. Leininger had three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls while junior
Kylie Christensen had three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers to lead the defense.
Boyce also had an assist in the game for a seven point performance and leads the team with 15 goals while her 19 points is just one behind Hentges who now has 14 goals after today's hat trick and 20 total points on the year. Boyce was busy on the offensive end with a team-record 15 total shots including 11 on goal.
McNicoll finished with two points on a goal and an assist and is tied for third on the squad with 11 points (6g, 5a) while junior
Kaci Reid had a pair of assists and leads the team with seven on the season.
Sophomore
Lexi Stanley was a force, registering five draw controls, three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers as Davenport committed 27 turnovers with CSP causing 15 of them as six different players had at least two caused turnovers.
Junior
Katie Lottsfeldt was active in the net in the victory, not only securing five saves but also adding two caused turnovers and securing eight ground balls.
Concordia outshot the Panthers 30-21 in the game including 18-11 in the second half despite facing a 14-9 disadvantage on the draw. In the first half, Davenport held a 9-3 edge on the draw although Concordia flipped that margin to a positive 6-5 in the second half which led to a greater 18-11 shot disparity.
Conocirda executed 11 of its 12 first half clears and finishing 21-26 for the game while Davenport was solid on the clear throughout at 17-of-18.
