TU gets GLIAC win vs. Cardinals 8-1

The Tiffin University Women's Tennis team got back to their winning ways as they split the weekend tennis series 1-1 by taking out the SVSU Cardinals 8-1 in a GLIAC contest on Sunday.

The Dragons started off strong with 3 straight doubles wins, an incredible improvement from their 1-2 deficient against Northwood. The closest match in doubles was the Dragons 8-6 victory at 1st doubles where Kaye / Nelhage remained sharp and showed why their regional ranking was deserved. A much improved doubles team of Musina / Sim came through for the Dragons with a solid 8-4 win over Izabella Ismailova/Danielle Slonac of SVSU. 3rd doubles was the most dominant performance for the team on the year as they dismantled Abigail Shonk/Madeline Miller of Saginaw 8-3.

Tiffin continued their hot streak into singles as they took 5 out of 6 singles matches in come from behind fashion across the board. 1st singles was a blow out win as Nelhage remained sharp with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Izabella Ismailova. 2nd singles started off fantastic as Musina took a 6-2 first set win, the second set was much closer as Ana Pico Garcia came back to tie up the set before Musina took charge, winning 6-4 to give her a victory at 2nd singles.

Emily Sim showed perseverance at 3rd singles as she took the first set quite easily with a 6-2 victory before falling in the second set 4-6. Sim regrouped and after being down early in the third set came back for a 6-4 victory for a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win over Shea Donahue.

4th singles was the singles match of the day for the Dragons as Bianca Avram showed up to play for the Dragons. Avram found herself in a 2-5 hole before coming back to win the first set 7-6 on a beautiful drop shot to end the first set. Avram didn't stop there and continued her dominating performance to win 6-1 in the second set. Aimee Kaye found herself in a similar hole at 5th singles as she faced a 2-5 uphill climb in the first set.

Kaye found her way to a 5-5 tie and proceeded to win the final two games giving her a 7-5 first set win. Kaye came roaring back in the second set to take an easy 6-2 victory over Taylor McLaughlin. Tiffin's lone loss on the evening came at 6th singles as Rae Brozovich lost a 0-6, 1-6 bout to Danielle Slonac.

The Dragons split the weekend matches 1-1 and now are 3-1 on the season.
