Men's Tennis Opens Spring Season With Loss at Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio
-- The Wayne State University men's tennis team opened up the spring portion of its schedule Friday, falling 7-0 against Division I opponent Toledo at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club.

The Warriors (0-1) fell in all three doubles matches, as the Rockets took an early 1-0 lead.

The WSU pairing of senior Michael FitzGerald and freshman Clement Charriere fell at No. 1 doubles, 6-3. Junior Trey Keating and senior Melvin Joseph lost 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, while sophomore Mohamed Fazyl Kechai and freshman Stephane Robineau were also defeated, losing 6-2 at the third flight in doubles.

In the longest match of the day, FitzGerald won the second set off Toledo's Roberto Meza at the fourth flight in singles. He fell in the match in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

Robineau fell to Toledo's Mark Singnil, 6-1, 6-4 at the top flight in singles. The Rockets' Stjepan Sisko defeated Charriere at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Kechai, Joseph and Keating also fell in straight sets in their respective flights in singles.

The Warriors return to the tennis court Friday, Feb. 28 for their first home match of the season. WSU is set to host Northwestern (Ohio) for an 11 a.m. match.
