TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Wayne State University volleyball program (14-10, 9-4 GLIAC) concluded its final regular season road trip at Tiffin (15-12, 7-6 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon with a four-set loss to the Dragons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warriors led 6-5 after a kill from
Madelyn Krenz (Chenoa, Ill. / Prairie Central) early in the opening set. A Tiffin attacking error stretched WSU's lead to 15-10 and
Hailey Richardson (New Boston, Mich. / Huron) gave Wayne State a 20-16 advantage with a kill and WSU win comfortably 25-18.
- The Dragons led the second set 6-3 and eventually 11-8. A service ace from Richardson tied the game at 13-13 and a
Grace Frazee (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) kill gave the Green & Gold an 18-17 lead. Tiffin tied the set at 22-22 and won three of the final four points to win the set 25-23.
- WSU won four of the first five points of the third set and let led 10-7 following a point from Richardson. However, TU found their swing and took a 12-11 lead powered by a 4-0 run. The home lead grew to 20-15 as the Dragons would take a 2-1 match lead by winning the set 25-17.
- Frazee gave WSU a 7-5 kill and Wayne State continued to lead 10-9 after a hill from Richardson. The visitors lead grew to 13-10 after a TU error but the Dragons would tie the set at 18-18. The Warriors led 22-19 but Tiffin would win seven of the final nine points to take the set 26-24 and the match 3-1.
LEADING THE WARRIORS
- Richardson posted second straight 20-kill performance with 23 finishes and tallied 14 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. Frazee collected 12 digs, while
Michelle Asiedu (Holland, Ohio / Springfield) notched 11.Â
Natalie Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) dished out 56 assists, while
Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) led the defense with 20 digs.
