SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Wayne State University men's tennis team opened up its spring season against the University of Detroit Mercy Friday night at the Franklin Racquet Club. The Warriors fell 6-1 to the Titans.
The only victory in doubles cam from No. 3 doubles duo junior Mohammed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France) and senior
Gopinath Menta (Hyderabad, India) who won in a tie-breaking match 7-6 (7-4).
The WSU pairing of senior
Trey Keating (Troy, Mich.) and freshman
Luke Ruocco (Lewes, England) fell 3-6 at No. 1 doubles. Freshman
Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire) and sophomore
Clement Charriere (Marseille, France) lost at No. 2 doubles, 4-6.
Ruocco obtained the only point for the Warriors winning No. 4 singles in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 10-8).
Menta won his second set at the fifth flight in singles (2-6, 6-4, 3-10) before falling to Jay Joshi of Detroit Mercy.
The Warriors return to the tennis court on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the University of Toledo.
