Findlay Defeats Bearcats

The University of Findlay volleyball team began competition at the GLIAC/GLVC Mizuno Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover Tournament on Friday, October 14 in Aurora, Ill. with a 3-2 (20-25, 25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 15-11) victory over McKendree University.  The win boosts the Oilers record to 13-5 on the season, while they remain at 8-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Findlay used an efficient, balanced attack to defeat the Bearcats.  As a team, the Oilers finished with a .333 kill percentage and four players reached the double digit kill mark.

Leading the way for Findlay was senior Hannah Tong.  She smashed a season high 24 kills, while hitting .489% and led the team at the net defensively with four total blocks. 

Sophomore Amanda Winner contributed with 12 kills and a team high three aces.  Freshman Molly Hammersmith connected on a career high 12 kills and led the team with a kill percentage of .522.

Junior Nickyla Garverick pounded out 10 kills for the Oilers and also added four total blocks.  Sophomore Kara Scherger provided defensive support with a team leading 19 digs.

Sophomore Hailee Olson was responsible for distributing the ball all over the court for the Oilers and recorded 52 assists in the match.  She also tied for a team high three aces and pitched in with seven digs.

The volleyball team continues play in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover on Saturday, October 15 with their final two matches of the tournament.  The first match is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. against University of Missouri-St. Louis and the second match is at 5:00 p.m. with Drury University.
