Dragons fall in Florida finales

Tiffin University (6-11) had two back and forth battles on its last day in Florida but the Dragons could not get a win, as they fell to Saint Anselm 7-4 ini 8 innings and Barry University 5-3.

Tiffany Snell was the tough luck loser in game one, tossing 8 innings and allowing 5 earned runs. St. Anselm opened scoring in the fourth inning, using 4 hits and an error to jump ahead 3-0.

The Dragons responded in the bottom of the 6th. Alayna Lytle and Brooke Lambert singled, and an error at shortstop on a fielder's choice allowed TU to get its first run. After Sierra Besser-Paul anad Amanda Rock reached on fielder's choices, Gabrielle Hess laced a single for 2 RBI, tying the score at 3-3.

TU had a chance to end it in the 7th inning. Libby Crow stroked a one-out double and reached third on a groundout to first base, but a lineout to left field ended the threat and sent the game to extra frames.

In St. Anselm's top half of the 8th, a single with a runner at second put them back on top. But the big blow came next, as another single and a three-run home run gave St. Anselm a big 7-3 lead heading to the bottom of the 8th.

With a runner on second, Hess got another RBI on a single, making the score 7-4, but Besser-Paul was thrown out at third on a big play from St. Anselm's right fielder, leaving one on with two out. A groundout to catcher ended the game.

Crow had two hits with a double, while Lytle had 3 hits. Hess totaled 2 hits with 3 RBI.

Against Barry, TU got on the board first. Crow walked, was sacrificed to second, and then scored on an error by the pitcher. 

Barry answered immediately. With two outs, a hit by pitch, single and double gave Barry a 2-1 lead. Kimmy Reynolds lasted just 1.1 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs. Faith Bogard then came on in relief, pitching the rest of the game.

TU retook the lead in the fourth inning. Brooke Lambert opened with a big home run. Hess then doubled and was sacrificed to third, where Abbey Zedaker brought her home with a single. The Dragons could have had a bigger inning, loading the bases with two outs but a fielder's choice ended the threat. Still, TU led 3-2.

Barry vaulted ahead in the 5th inning. Three straight singles knocked in two runs as they led 4-3. 

TU had a runner in scoring position in the 6th but a fly out to right field left her stranded. Barry picked up a big insurance run in the 6th, as a single and two wild pitches put them ahead 5-3 heading to the 7th.

A two out single from Lambert brought the tying run to the plate but a fielder's choice ended the game for TU.

Bogard took the loss, tossing 4.2 innings and allowing 3 earned runs while fanning 6. Lambert had 3 hits with a double and home run for 2 RBI, while Zedaker had 2 hits.
