Oilers Lose Home Opener Doubleheader Against Saginaw Valley

The University of Findlay women's softball team lost their doubleheader home opener against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Saginaw Valley State University on Tuesday, April 1.  The Oilers suffered a failed comeback attempt in the first game losing 11-9 while losing 6-4 in the second game.  The doubleheader loss gives the Oilers a 9-8 mark on the season. 

In the first game, the Cardinals jumped out to an 8-3 lead after the first inning and took an 11-5 lead through four innings.  Findlay scored four runs in the sixth inning, but wasn't enough to complete the comeback. 

Lauren Trumpler had a big game at the plate finishing with a three RBI double and a two RBI single while Tori Allen added three singles and two RBI.  Megan Turner also helped lead the offense with a home run, a double and two runs scored.     

Tawna Whited took the loss on the mound, giving up eight runs in the first inning. 

In the second game, Saginaw Valley took a 4-0 lead through five innings and the Oilers attempted a comeback in the seventh inning, but unfortunately came up short.   

Tawna Whited took the loss on mound, giving up six runs in six innings with thirteen strikeouts. 

Emily Reynolds led the offense for the Oilers finishing the game with a two RBI double while Courtney Dwyer added one run scored and two singles. 

The Oilers return to the field on Thursday, April 3 when they host Lourdes in a two-game set.
