The University of Findlay men's basketball team dropped their first game of the season on Nov. 17 at the Don Callan Classic in Cedarville, Ohio as they fell 78-73 to Lake Superior State University. The loss gives the Oilers, who are ranked 20th in the nation, a 3-1 record on the season.

The Oilers held a 39-30 lead with two minutes remaining in the first period before the Lakers rallied with an 8-0 run to end the half. The Lakers then jumped out to a 54-46 lead in the first six minutes of the second half before the Oilers battled back to tie the game at 58-58 with ten minutes to play. Lake Superior State then went on a backbreaking 10-0 run in the next five minutes to put the game out reach.

Senior guard Elijah Kahlig led the Oilers with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting. He also hit 5-of-12 attempts from three point land in the game as well.

Senior forward Taren Sullivan recorded a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds before departing with an injury while junior guard Trey Smith, starting for an injured Austin Gardner, had 13 points and three assists.

Senior guard Martyce Kimbrough had nine points, five rebounds and three assists while sophomore forward Aaron Overhiser had nine points and nine rebounds off the bench.

As a team, the Oilers shot 43.1 percent (28-of-65) from the floor and made 11-of-33 (33.3%) attempts from three point range. The Lakers meanwhile connected on 50.9 percent (27-of-53) of their shot attempts and canned 21-of-30 (70%) attempts from the charity stripe in the game. The Lakers also held a 42-18 advantage in points in the paint.

Akaemji Williams led the Lakers with 27 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Oilers will be back in action again tomorrow when they face Miami-Hamilton in Cedarville at 3pm.
