Warriors Drop Match at Ferris State

Freshman Hannah Moore leads WSU with 10 kills.

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- With its eyes set on playing the role of spoiler, the Wayne State University volleyball team (9-15, 6-11 GLIAC) was swept at #22 Ferris State (19-5, 16-1 GLIAC) on Friday night.

The Bulldogs are currently tied with #17 Grand Valley State for the top spot in the league after the Lakers swept Saginaw Valley State in Allendale on Friday. WSU travels to GVSU for its final match of the season Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) finished with a match-high 10 kills. WSU could not overcome a -.070 hitting percentage as FSU kept its title hopes alive by hitting .140. Brittany Guldan (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) collected 18 assists while Madison Kielty (Plymouth, Mich. / Canton) posted 11 digs.

Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) pulled WSU within two at 12-10 after a kill but the Bulldogs would regain the momentum and led 21-13 after a Warrior attack error. The Green & Gold fought back within two at 24-22 after a Heather Weiss (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron) kill but FSU collected the final point it needed to win the set.

FSU led 8-0 to begin the second set and would not let up the entire game. The Bulldogs led 22-8 on their way to a 2-0 match lead.

The third set was more competitive as WSU trailed 14-10 after a kill from Kelsey Bonewits (Griffith, Ind.). A 6-1 Bulldogs run extended their lead to 24-15 and would win 25-16 to complete the sweep.

WSU will attempt to keep in-state rival GVSU from celebrating a GLIAC title on Saturday afternoon inside Fieldhouse Arena.
