Women's Tennis Picks Up Second Win at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Michigan Tech women's tennis team picked up its second win of the season with a 7-2 score at Hillsdale today. The Huskies won five of the six singles flights and two of the three doubles matches to improve to 2-7 on the year.

Kwang Suthijindawong and Sandra Cvetanovic remained undefeated (13-0) with an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Kat Donovan and Natalia Parra Alvarez earned their first win of the season at No. 3 doubles 8-6. The Chargers claimed the No. 2 flight by an 8-5 decision.

Tech won each of the top five flights in singles. Suthijindawong advanced her season singles record to 14-1 and remained perfect in her GLIAC singles career (33-0) with a 6-0, 6-4 triumph. Cvetanovic shook off being down a set at No. 2 to win 6-7 (9), 7-5, 7-5. Emilia Tenizbaeva and Parra Alvarez both won first-set tiebreakers en route to straight set wins. Tenizbaeva was a 7-6 (5), 6-2 winner at No. 3. Parra Alvarez was a 7-6 (3), 6-2 victor at No. 4. Erika Tenizbaeva rounded out the Huskies scoring with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5.

Michigan Tech is now 2-7 in league play while Hillsdale is 3-6. The Huskies will be off of team competition next week while Suthijindawong and Cvetanovic compete in the doubles draw at the USTA/ITA Small College Championships in Sumter, S.C., on Oct. 9-12.
