NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Following Friday's 14-inning victory, the Wayne State University baseball team (2-1) concluded its season-opening series at Trevecca Nazarene (1-5) on Saturday with a doubleheader split. The Warriors were shutout, 2-0, in game one but used a four-run fourth inning to take game two 7-6.
GAME ONE (L, 0-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The home team struck first with a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning to give TNU a 1-0 lead. Two Warrior errors in the bottom of the sixth inning led to the Trojans' second run of the game. The Warriors threatened in the top of the ninth after
Griffin Harms (Bingham Farms, Mich. / Birmingham Groves) singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. However, the Trojans kept the shutout intact to win 2-0.
ON THE MOUND

Jared Tobey (St. Clair, Mich.) (0-1) started for the Warriors and pitched four innings and struck out four batters, while allowing a run.
Hunter Brown (St. Clair, Mich. / Lakeview) made his collegiate debut and struck out five batters and did not allow an earned run over four innings.
GAME TWO (W, 7-6)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Trojans scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning and added a run in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single. Harms trimmed the deficit to 4-1 with an RBI single in the top of the third inning.
- The Warriors got back into the game as the first two runners reach in the top of the fourth inning.
JT Conti (Trenton, Mich.) singled and
Justin Kelly (Trenton, Mich.Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South) was hit by a pitch.
Jack Schmidt (Fishers, Ind. / Indianapolis Cathedral) drew a walk to load the bases and
Dennis Olszewski (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Gabriel Richard) followed with a sacrifice fly RBI to pull WSU within two, 4-2. RBI singles by
Justin Sherman (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer) and
Jeremy Carrell (St. Clair, Mich.) tied the game at 4-4. The next batter,
Brad Baldwin (Troy, Mich. / Bishop Foley Catholic), put the Green & Gold ahead 5-4 with a sac fly into center field.
- In the top of the sixth inning, Kelly sent a two-run home run over the wall in left to extend WSU's lead to 7-4. TNU made it interesting in its final at-bats, scoring two runs but Conti was able to collect three outs for the save to secure the win and series victory.

- Conti posted a 3-for-4 game, while Kelly collected a two-RBI performance.
ON THE MOUND

Addison Pawelek (Shelby Twp., Mich. / De La Salle) started and went two and 2/3 innings before
Nolan Dill (Bowling Green, Ohio) allowed two runs over the next three and 1/3 innings. Conti notched his first save of the season by collecting the three outs needed in the seventh inning.

- The Warriors will play three games at the Dunn Hospitality Classic hosted by Southern Indiana beginning on Feb. 24th against the USI. WSU also will clash with St. Joseph's and Indianapolis.
