Baseball Concludes Home GLIAC Season With Split

WSU took game one 5-0 behind a two-RBI game from Brad Baldwin.

DETROIT -- On a rainy Sunday in Midtown, the Wayne State University baseball program (29-16, 19-9 GLIAC) concluded the home league season against Grand Valley State (28-18, 16-12 GLIAC) and just like the previous 10 meetings, the Warriors and Lakers split the doubleheader.  Behind a strong pitching performance from Addison Pawelek (Shelby Twp., Mich. / De La Salle) (3-3) and a two-RBI game from Brad Baldwin (Troy, Mich. / Bishop Foley Catholic), WSU won game one 5-0 before falling 11-1 in the series finale.

Prior to first pitch, WSU honored its nine-member senior class including Jeremy Carrell (St. Clair, Mich.), Cole Clifton (Sterling Heights. Mich. / De La Salle), Griffin Harms (Bingham Farms, Mich. / Birmingham Groves), Chris Horvath (Lakeshore, Ont.), Randy Kuzdak (Redford, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child), Dennis Olszewski (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Gabriel Richard), Justin Sherman (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer), Tyler Tompson (Farmington, Mich.) and Sean Winkelseth (Ypsilanti, Mich.).

GAME ONE (W, 5-0)

- The Green & Gold scored two runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.  Carrell doubled off the wall to begin the rally and scored on a Baldwin single.  Harms plated the inning's second run with an RBI single through the left side.

- The Warriors added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on three hits and a GVSU error.  Carrell drove in a run and Patrick Adams (Detroit, Mich. / De La Salle) followed with a bases-loaded walk.  Baldwin capped the inning with another RBI single.

- Pawelek kept the Lakers quiet in the fifth before Nolan Dill (Bowling Green, Ohio) replaced the sophomore in the sixth inning to record the final five outs.
