Dragons Swept On First Day Of Bellarmine Tourney

The Tiffin University volleyball team knew they had their work cut out for them entering the Bellarmine Tournament, taking on Arkansas-Fort Smith and Bellarmine University on day one. Tiffin fell in both of those contests, falling 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.

Tiffin University vs. Arkansas-Fort Smith

The Lions came out on the prowl against the Dragons, dropping Tiffin in set one 25-18. The Dragons committed too many errors in the set, hitting at only a .111 clip. The 2nd set was a tighter match, with the Dragons hanging with Arkansas-Fort Smith. Tiffin had their chances, but every time Tiffin tried to make a move the Lions were there to cut them off. The Dragons fell in the second set 25-21. In the final set, Tiffin scored the first point of the set, but that was the only lead the Dragons enjoyed. Arkansas-Fort Smith kept the heat on Tiffin, dropping the Dragons 25-17 in the final set. 

For the Dragons, Jenna Huffman kept her double digit kills streak alive, logging 10 for Tiffin. Emily Weithman added 23 assists, and Taylor Lattimore collected 25 digs.

Tiffin University vs. Bellarmine University

The undefeated Knights were another tough task for Tiffin, but the Dragons fought hard in the four set match.

In the initial set, Bellarmine's attack proved to be too strong for Tiffin, logging 20 kills and a .250 hitting percentage on their way to a 25-20 win over Tiffin.

The Dragons fought hard in the second set, racing ahead to a 17-12 lead. The Knights never gave in, riding back to tie the score at 21-21. The two teams went blow for blow throughout the final points of the set, with Tiffin's Jenna Huffman driving home the winning kill to give Tiffin a 28-26 2nd set win.

Bellarmine returned to their 1st set form in the third set, bouncing Tiffin 25-17 to take a 2-1 lead. In the fourth and final set, Tiffin hung close, but never sustained a run to overtake the Knights. Bellarmine kept their distance, finishing off Tiffin 25-20 for a 3-1 win.

Danielle Hicks led Tiffin in kills finishing with 11. Hicks added eight digs and three assisted blocks to her stat line. Jenna Huffman chipped in with 10 kills, 13 digs, and four assisted blocks. 

The Dragons fall to 3-3 overall and will look to recover from today's losses with a pair of matches tomorrow.
