Oilers Come Up Short Against Eagles
The University of Findlay women's basketball team lost 77-66 to Ashland University on Jan. 22 in Ashland, Ohio. The loss gives the Oilers a 9-6 record on the season with a 5-6 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
The Eagles hit a three pointer at the buzzer to enter the break with a 40-37 lead. The shot gave the Eagles some momentum as they eventually built a 19-point margin midway through the second half. The Oilers then made a run towards the end of the game, but ran out of time as their three-game winning streak was snapped.
The Oilers shot 42.6 percent (23-of-54) from the floor while the Eagles posted a 53.6 percent (30-of-56) shooting clip in the game. The Eagles also out-rebounded Findlay by a 41-27 margin.
Senior guard Ciara Geiger posted a season-high 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting while senior guard Nikki Gunning had 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Geiger also added four rebounds, two assists and two steals while Gunning made 5-of-8 tries from long range.
Senior guard Kristin Klausing had eight points and three steals while senior forward Lacey Kessler provided seven points and three boards off the bench.
The Eagles were led by Laina Snyder, who had 18 points and ten rebounds. Andi Daugherty also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards.
The Oilers will return to the hardwood on Saturday when they travel to Painesville, Ohio to take on Lake Erie at 1 p.m.
