ORLANDO, Fla. – In its second match in as many days, the Wayne State University women's tennis team (13-4 overall) earned its first win on its spring break trip Friday, defeating Concordia (N.Y.) (12-4 overall) 6-3.
Junior Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia), freshman Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont. / Robert Bateman S.S.) and freshman Linda Liong all won twice for the Warriors.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Kuznetsova and Da-Silva remained paired up for an 8-1 win over Kristel Kalm and Siri Victorsson in the first slot.
At No. 3 Liong and freshman Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) earned the second Warrior doubles point, defeating Franziska Putschbach Tadi Mrewa, 8-5.
Seniors Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) and Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) lost 9-8 (7-3) to Josefina Torres and Angelica Karlsson in the third flight.
SINGLES RESULTS
Mitrache defeated Victorsson, 6-3, 6-3, in the first flight.
Kuznetsova defeated Kalm at No. 2 (7-5, 6-3).
Da-Silva was a winner over Karlsson, 6-1, 6-0 in the third spot.
Liong claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win over Mrewa in the fifth spot.
At No. 4, Ghellere fell 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to Torres.
Putschbach defeated WSU junior Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont. / St. Anne's S.S.) in the sixth flight (6-2, 6-2).
UP NEXT
Wayne State will stay in Orlando to play its third match in three days on Saturday. The Warriors take on St. Cloud State in a neutral site match-up.
