Findlay, OH- The University of Findlay men's soccer team defeated the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals on Wednesday, September 14. This win gives the Oilers an overall record of 2-3 and a conference record of 1-2.
In the first three minutes of the game, junior Bailey Crawford headed the ball into the net off of a corner kick from sophomore Michael Shaikly.
With 15 minutes left in the first half, sophomore Michael Shaikly slotted the ball in the right side of the net with a one on one against the keeper.
The Cardinals countered with a goal four minutes later to end the half 2-1 in favor of the Oilers.
In the 27th minute of the second half, Saginaw Valley tied the game up 2-2 off a free kick with a header in the back of the net, which eventually ended the half in a tie.
The Oilers and the Cardinals battled in the second half with Findlay having one yellow card and Saginaw Valley having six yellow cards.
The Cardinals received a red card in the 82nd minute, leaving them a man down for the rest of the half and the first overtime.
Three minutes into the first overtime, the Oilers received a free kick off of a penalty against Saginaw. After the ball was bobbling in the box, freshman Kegan Winkler put the ball in the back of the net to win the game for the Oilers 3-2, leading the Oilers to their first win in the conference.
The Oilers will take the field again on Sunday, September 18 at 1:00pm against Tiffin University at DeHaven Field.
