DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball program (13-9, 8-3 GLIAC) strengthened its grip on first place in the South Division with a 3-0 sweep over Lake Superior State (3-17, 1-10 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon inside the Matthaei.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Grace Frazee (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) gave WSU a 5-2 lead with a kill early in the first set. Frazee continued to play well, collecting a solo block to extend the home lead to 13-4. A point from
Madelyn Krenz (Chenoa, Ill. / Prairie Central) put the Green & Gold on top 20-9 and
Hailey Richardson (New Boston, Mich. / Huron) finished the 25-14 set-one victory with a kill.
- The Warriors led the second set 6-4 after a service ace from
Haley Tenelshof (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Jenison). Lake Superior State hung around and trailed 13-11 after a Lakers kill. However, WSU responded and led 16-12 after a kill from Richardson. A 7-0 run by WSU gave the Warriors a 23-13 lead and put the set out of reach.
-
Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) and Frazee teamed up for a block to give Wayne State a 7-3 advantage early in the third set.Â
Natalie Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) dumped one over the net for a kill and stretched WSU's lead to 15-5.Â
Claire McWilliams (Muskegon, Mich. / Fruitport) ended the match with a kill to give WSU a 25-15 victory and a 3-0 sweep.
CAREER MILESTONE
- Moore tallied her 1,000th career kill during the first set and now has 1,000 kills and 1,000 career digs, which she accomplished last weekend against McKendree.
LEADING THE WARRIORS
