Late Wildcat goal sinks Dragons

The Tiffin University men's soccer team dropped their first contest of the season on Friday, falling 2-1 to the Northern Michigan University Wildcats.

The Wildcats wasted little time on the offensive end, striking in the 15th minute with a beautiful cross that was headed past the Dragons' goalkeeper. The Dragons kept attacking on the offensive end, firing seven shots in the 1st half, but were turned away by Northern Michigan. TU also held an early lead in corner kicks, but were unable to capitalize.

As the game moved on into the 2nd half, the more physical the play became, as evident by the seven yellow cards in the 2nd half. The physical play didn't bother Michael McPeek in the 65th minute, as he blasted a strike from 35 yards away to tie the score at 1-1. Northern held their own as the half moved on, and with a little over three minutes left, they untied the score with a shot in traffic to give Northern Michigan a 2-1 lead and ultimately the victory.

Michael McPeek was the lone goal scorer for the Dragons, scoring in the 65th minute. Tiffin fired 14 shots in total, compared to eight for the Wildcats. The loss drops Tiffin to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in GLIAC play. The Dragons will be back in action on September 28, traveling to Saginaw Valley State.
