Dragons Suffer Tough 1-0 Defeat

The Tiffin University women's soccer team battled through the heat and with the Ashland University Eagles on Sunday, but the Eagles got the best of Tiffin. Ashland netted a late 2nd half goal to drop Tiffin 1-0.

It was a scorcher out at the Paradiso Athletic Complex on Sunday, with both teams having to endure temperatures approaching 90 degrees. 

It was a high flying 1st half, as the two offenses combined for 25 shots. The keepers for Tiffin and Ashland were kept busy, as Tiffin twice hit the crossbar on a shot attempt. The Eagles held a sizeable lead in corner kicks after a half of play, totaling nine while holding Tiffin to two attempts. Tiffin's netminder Samantha Ortenzi collected four saves in the first half, sacrificing her body on a few of the saves.

The pace of play in the 2nd half slowed to a crawl on the offensive end, as the heat began to take its toll on the Eagles and Dragons. Tiffin continued to throw shots at the net, but were denied on every attempt. With a little over ten minutes remaining in regulation, the Eagles struck gold off a corner kick, taking a 1-0 lead. Tiffin continued to fight, but were unable to crack the Ashland defense.

Samantha Ortenzi played great in goal for Tiffin, corralling nine saves. As a team, Tiffin held a 23-19 advantage in shots, but trailed the Eagles in corner kicks 12-6.

The Dragons fall to 1-6-1 overall and 0-1 in the GLIAC.
