Bears cruise to road win at Lewis

Heinl tops 100 career points, Boyce big on offense, Stanley big on the draw, Lottsfeldt with 9 saves in net

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse improved to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the GLIAC standings on Friday evening, scoring a 17-8 win at Lewis (1-4, 1-3 GLIAC) at Lewis Stadium.

Concordia concludes its three game road swing through Missouri and Illinois with a 2-1 record and returns home next Friday night for Golden Bears vs. Cancer against Northern Michigan at 6 p.m. at the Concordia Dome on April 5. CSP will then head to NMU the following Wednesday, April 10 for a second straight game against the Wildcats.

Concordia junior Kailey Heinl became Concordia's third member of the 100 point club with a pair of first half assists, pushing her career total to 101 points (87g, 14a). The assists came on back-to-back CSP goals in the first half to give Concordia an 8-3 lead with 5:41 to play before the break.

The Golden Bears had trailed early in the contest as the host Flyers scored first just over two minutes into play and broke a 1-1 tie with a goal at 25:39.

From there, Concordia's experience took over against the first year program as junior Alina Boyce put CSP ahead for good with a pair of goals after senior Izzy Snow's goal at 23:23 tied it, and she assisted on the final goal of a 4-0 run to give Concordia 5-2 lead just past the midway mark of the half. Boyce finished the game with a team-best seven points on five goals and a pair of assists. Snow added three draw controls to her two point game.

After a Lewis goal cut it to 5-3, Concordia sprinted ahead with the next five goals to take a commanding 10-3 first half lead. The five goals came in a stretch of five and a half minutes and CSP would carry an 11-4 lead into the break. Freshman Sara McNicoll had the final two goals of the run amid a three goal, one assist performance. McNicoll also had a pair of caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls.

The seven goal halftime lead was the closest Lewis would come the rest of the way in a game that never saw the lead go into running time territory as Concordia held three nine goal leads in the second half.

Concordia dominated the draw to a 16-10 margin behind the play of sophomore Lexi Stanley with a career-high seven draw controls, just one shy of the school record.

The Golden Bears were perfect in 20 clear attempts in the contest.

Junior goalie Katie Lottsfeldt went the distance, racking up nine saves with a .529 save percentage.

The Flyers were led by a four goal performance from Alyson Jines while Patricia Fotto had a team-best seven ground balls and four caused turnovers and Scarlet Kellner had six draw controls to go with her two goal game.

Lewis used a pair of goalies in the game, starter Faith Engle with Elizabeth Baeder in reserve. Each goalie recorded three saves while Engle gave up nine goals to Baeder's eight.
