GRAND RAPIDS -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (7-2 overall, 7-2 GLIAC) kicked off the final weekend of regular season play with a 9-0 win over Davenport (1-7 overall, 1-7 GLIAC).
Senior
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino), junior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and freshmen
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont. / Robert Bateman S.S.),
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia)
Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) were all double winners for the Warriors.
RESULTS
Mitrache and Da-Silva paired at No. 2 doubles and were first off the court after an 8-3 win over Terin Everse and Bridget Barrett. That was followed by a win at the first flight from Kuznetsova and senior
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil), who won 9-7 over Steph Ritson and Adeline Nelson.
Liong and van Meer won by default as the Panthers did not field a third doubles flight.
In singles action, Mitrache defeated Ritson 6-4, 5-7, 10-1 in the first flight, with Kuznetsova winning 6-3, 6-3 over Nelson.
Da-Silva moved up to No. 3 singles and defeated Everse, 6-1, 6-2, with Liong winning in the fourth flight over Bridget Barrett (6-0, 6-2). At No. 5, van Meet defeated Sophie Gossett 6-0, 6-2.
Junior
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont. / St. Anne's S. S.) secured the final flight thanks to a default and no opponent.

The Warriors will conclude the regular season on Sunday with a 10 a.m. contest at Purdue Northwest.
