Men's Basketball Fails to Slow Down Ferris State

The Warriors trailed by eight at half and lost 82-65.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (12-8, 9-7 GLIAC) fell 82-65 against first-pace Ferris State (20-3, 14-2 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs won their 15th straight contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warriors used a fast start to take a 12-2 lead following a put back from Chuck Key (Detroit, Mich. / Cass Tech) at the 11:49 mark.  The visitors found their footing and used an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 12-10 with 9:42 left to play.  George Spencer (Detroit, Mich. / Belleville) connected from deep to keep WSU on top 17-15 at the 7:53 mark.  A quick 5-0 run by the Bulldogs gave them a three-point lead, 20-17.  Key continued to have a stellar opening half and drove to the rim for a layup to keep the Green & Gold close, 23-21, at the six-minute mark.  However, FSU used an 11-0 run to take a 34-21 lead with 3:43 remaining.  WSU cut the FSU lead to six before a well-executed inbounds play as time expired in the half gave the Bulldogs a 39-31 lead.

- Ferris State stretched the lead to 15, 53-38, five minutes into the second period.  The Bulldogs continued to lead comfortably, 65-46, at the nine-minute mark.  WSU pulled within 13 after two Jalen Adams (Saginaw, Mich. / Arthur Hill) free throws and a Ronald Booth (Detroit, Mich. / Consortium) layup with 5:28 to play.  That would be as close as the Warriors would get the rest of the way as FSU cruised to an 82-65 win.

WSU LEADERS
- Key finished with 22 points to notch his fourth career 20-point performance.  He also grabbed 10 rebounds to finish with his third career double-double.  Lewis also posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

FSU LEADERS
- Drew Cushingberry led FSU with 21 points, while Noah King contributed 13.  Zach Hankins tallied eight points, eight rebounds and five blocks.

UP NEXT
- The Warriors will play their next four games on the road beginning with a matchup with Michigan Tech on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.  The game can be heard on WDTK (1400 AM / 101.5 FM).
